How Much Does a Wedding Cost in South Africa in 2027?
The honest range in South Africa is anywhere from R85 000 for a small, well planned wedding to R300 000 and beyond for 150 guests with the works. The venue and the food are usually half of it. Here is how that breaks down, with our own numbers in it so you can see a real example.
The venue and the food
Most venues quote hire and catering separately, so a R25 000 hall becomes R110 000 by the time everyone has eaten. We quote one number. R58,000 covers up to 50 guests with the venue, buffet dinner, DJ, photographer, tableware, flowers on the tables and the bridal suite for two nights. A hundred guests is R85 500. A hundred and fifty is R132 500. Midweek, before extras.
The things people forget
Hair and makeup for the bridal party, R5 000 to R10 000. The cake, R4 000 to R10 000. Stationery and signage, R4 000 to R8 000. A videographer, R15 000 to R25 000. A bar for 150 people for five hours, anywhere from R20 000 to R60 000 depending on how well your friends drink.
Where couples overspend
Flowers. Ceiling installations and hanging greenery are beautiful and they are R25 000 to R45 000. Spend it if it matters to you, but decide with your eyes open.
Where couples save
The date. A Wednesday in July costs the base price. A Saturday in October costs twenty percent more on the venue side and every supplier is busier. If your date is flexible, that flexibility is worth an open bar.
